The Mansfield Police Department is seeking qualified Full-Time MPTC Academy Trained individuals to join us as Part-Time Reserve Police Officers.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Eligibility Overview: Below are the minimum requirements as outlined by Massachusetts state law for police officer candidates, as well as the minimum requirements unique to the Mansfield Police Department.

• Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or naturalization).
• Must have completed a FT MPTC Police Academy.
• Must pass the current physical fitness requirements for candidates, age and gender adjusted by the MPTC, before receiving further consideration.
• Be at least 21 years of age upon submission of application.
• Have the ability to obtain an unrestricted Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm.
• Must possess a valid CPR and First Aid Certification.

Additional Qualifications & Certifications

Additional qualifications are to include, but not be limited to:

• Once hired reserve officers shall be compensated to meet their annual in-service training obligation.
• Reserve officer shall attend annual firearms training and shall pass the MPTC required qualification course.
• Maintain current First Responder/CPR Certification.
• Must be eligible to fill details in Mansfield, including the stadium detail, once full-time officers have had the opportunity to fill said details.

Core Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities are to include, but not be limited to:

• Exercise lawful authority and be accountable to superior officers.
• Respond punctually to all assignments.
• Acquire and record information concerning events since last tour of duty.
• Maintain all weapons and department equipment.
• Enforce the vehicle and parking laws.
• Serve or deliver warrants, summons, and subpoenas when directed by a superior officer.
• Confer with the court prosecutor and testify in court.
• Additional responsibilities and specific duties shall be provided by the Mansfield PD upon determination of eligibility to proceed with the selection process.

Hiring Process

Steps to Success

• Submit application for further consideration.
• Application packages received will be reviewed by the Chief of Police.
• Eligible candidate(s) may be invited for initial interview with the Chief of Police and members of the PD selected by the Chief.
• Any candidate(s) who receives a Conditional Offer of Employment shall complete the background investigation, as well as a drug test at the town's expense.
• Upon successful completion of the screening and hiring standard the candidate(s) shall be presented to the Town Manager and HR Director for final offer of employment.
