Minimum Requirements
To be considered an eligible candidate, the Wellesley PD requires applicants to meet or exceed the Minimum Requirements as outlined below.
- Must possess a minimum of an Associate's Degree upon appointment.
- Must pass oral interviews.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation prior to employment.
- Not be a convicted felon or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth.
- No person, who has been convicted of a felony or any offense punishable under M.G.L. Chapter 94C (drug law violations) or have been convicted of a misdemeanor and has been confined to any jail or house of correction as punishment for said crime, M.G.L. Chapter 22C, Section 14, will be considered for employment.
- Must pass medical examination, psychological fitness for duty examination, and physical fitness test after receiving a conditional offer of employment.
- Must reside within 15 miles of Wellesley, MA within one year of appointment.
- In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 101A, no officer or student officer appointed or hired after January 1, 1988, shall smoke any tobacco product.
- Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Wellesley Police Officer.
- Have have successfully completed the Full-Time MPTC Police Academy, or have an MPTC Academy Waiver.
- Must be free of any tattoo on the face, neck, ears, or any portion of the body above the uniform neckline. Any tattoo that is visible on any other body part or is otherwise significantly exposed by the standard uniforms (summer/winter/training, etc.), shall be subject to approval by the Chief of Police.
Additional Qualifications
FT Lateral Transfer:
- To be considered an eligible applicant, candidates must hold current Full-Time Police Officer status, and be a full-time enforcement officer from any U.S. law enforcement agency with a minimum of two years full time experience in his/her agency in order to apply to the Department as a Lateral Transfer.
- A former Wellesley police officer, who separated from the Department in good standing, may apply to rejoin the Department as a reinstatement.
- Possess an Associate's Degree or equivalent credits when enrolled in a Bachelor's program, or be an active member of the military or honorably discharged.
- A FT Lateral Transfer applicant must be certified and in good standings with the National Decertification Index (NDI).
- Must be of good moral character and fit for employment, as determined by the POST Commission.

Annual Salary:
- Starting Salary Range = $62,237 to $81,531.32 and Maximum Salary Range = $77,769 to $100,131 (dependent upon applicable college education).
