The Cohasset Police Department has recently withdrawn from the Massachusetts Civil Service system and is actively seeking experienced officers eligible to apply as Lateral Transfer candidates to serve the Cohasset community.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants to our Lateral Transfer position must meet the following qualifications necessary for consideration:
- Academy Training: Eligible applicants must have completed their academy training through a Full-Time MPTC Academy to qualify for this position. Applications from Bridge Academy graduates will not be considered.
- Officer Status: Applicants must hold current FT Police Officer status, and be POST Certified.
- Current Agency Qualifiers: A FT enforcement officer from any Massachusetts law enforcement agency with a minimum of one year full-time experience after the completion of the MPTC Academy to be considered as a Lateral Transfer.
- NDI Status: A FT Lateral Transfer applicant must be in good standings with the National Decertification Index (NDI).
- Character: Must be of good moral character and fit for employment, as determined by the POST Commission.
Salary & Compensation
The Cohasset Police Department offers a competitive salary & benefits compensation package.
Annual Salary:
- $69,939 - $83,510 (Effective July 1, 2026) *
- Certified officers will receive credit for time served. Experience and years of service will determine starting salary.
* Effective July 1, 2026, top step for a patrol officer is $106,023, including night differential, longevity, Bachelor's degree incentive pay, and holiday pay.
