Minimum Requirements

FT Lateral Transfer:

To be considered an eligible applicant, candidates must hold current Full-Time Police Officer status, and be a full-time enforcement officer from any U.S. law enforcement agency with a minimum of two years full time experience in his/her agency in order to apply to the Department as a Lateral Transfer.
A former Norwood police officer, who separated from the Department in good standing, may apply to rejoin the Department as a reinstatement.
Possess an Associate's Degree or equivalent credits when enrolled in a Bachelor's program, or be an active member of the military or honorably discharged.
A FT Lateral Transfer applicant must be certified and in good standings with the National Decertification Index (NDI).
Must be of good moral character and fit for employment, as determined by the POST Commission.

Salary: What You'll Earn

Annual Salary for Patrol Officer:

Lateral Transfer applicants receive credit for their years of law enforcement experience in determining starting salary.

$67,392 - $84,090
Longevity Pay:*
- Step 12: 1%
- Step 15: 4%
- Step 20: 6%
- Step 25: 9%

*Percentages start on the first pay period of the officer's 12th, 15th, 20th, and 25th year of employment respectively.

Lateral Transfer applicants receive credit for their years of law enforcement experience in determining vacation accrual.

Annual Clothing Allowance: $1,200

EMT Stipend (Currently 2%. Increases to 3% after July 1, 2026.)
Night Differential:
- 4:00pm - 12:00am: 4%
- 12:00am - 8:00am: 5%
Specialty Stipends (Detectives, Evidence Officer, Clerk, Field Training Officer)
Accreditation Stipend: 2%
Fitness Incentives:
- Annual Fitness Stipend: $1,500**
- Workout on Duty Available
(14) Paid Holidays (May be taken as leave.)
(10) Sick Days, (2) Additional Personal Sick Days
Generous Health Coverage: Town Contribution = 80% Towards GIC Health Insurance.

*Officers are eligible for education incentives based on their annual salary.

**Eligibility for the fitness incentive requires successful completion and fulfillment of all requirements of the fitness program.
