Minimum Requirements

Do You Qualify? Lateral Transfer Officers must meet the following qualifications necessary for consideration:

✔️ A FT enforcement officer from any U.S. law enforcement agency must have experience in his/her agency to be considered as a Lateral Transfer.
✔️ A FT Lateral Transfer applicant must be in good standings with the National Decertification Index (NDI).
✔️ Must be of good moral character and fit for employment, as determined by the POST Commission.
✔️ Must pass thorough Background Investigation.
✔️ Must pass a Medical Exam and Psychological Exam (if none on record with current agency).
✔️ Must pass Physical Abilities Test.

Core Responsibilities

Your Role: 

• Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
• Respond to emergency calls and assist in emergency situations.
• Conduct investigations and gather evidence related to criminal offenses.
• Enforce laws and regulations, issue citations, and make arrests as necessary.
• Prepare and maintain accurate reports and documentation of incidents and investigations.
• Engage with community members to foster positive relationships and promote public safety.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential Skills for Success

• Working knowledge of modern police procedures, laws, and use-of-force standards.
• Ability to assess situations quickly and take appropriate action.
• Proficient in self-defense tactics, firearms, and emergency vehicle operation.
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with agencies, staff, and the public.
• Familiarity with community geography and demographics.
• Competent in computer use and report writing.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills; professional appearance and demeanor.
• Emotionally stable with the ability to handle stress and confront hostile individuals.
• Physically capable of performing arrests, pursuing suspects, and managing high-stress incidents.
• Must meet wellness standards per M.G.L. c.31 §§ 61A–61B (for hires after Nov. 1, 1996).

Salary & Compensation

The Holliston PD offers a competitive salary & benefits compensation package:

Annual Salary:

• $64,183 - $87,710 
• Applicants who have previously worked as a full-time sworn police officer with full-time Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) academy training (or its equivalent), will have that previous time count for purposes of placement on the salary and vacation accrual schedules.

• Oral Interview.

  • The Department's Physical Ability Test (PAT)

• Interview with the Holliston Select Board.
