Job Description
The Brigham and Women's Hospital Police & Security Department (BWH), is seeking candidates for FT Lateral Transfer POST Certified Officer positions. BWH provides a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing hospital regulations, and maintaining active, continuous, vigilance.
As an BWH officer, you will respond to, and when necessary, initiate investigations involving complaints and/or possible criminal conduct. BWH officers work under the authority of a special state police along with the proper State of Massachusetts POST Certification. Applicants must possess the ability to enforce appropriate Massachusetts General Laws as needed, utilizing power of arrest or by seeking criminal complaint as needed.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered an eligible candidate for the role of FT Lateral Transfer Officer, applicants much meet or exceed the Minimum Requirements as specified below.
- Must have completed a FT MPTC Academy and be POST Certified.
- Must be able to receive Massachusetts State Police Officer (SSPO) designation and maintain such designation by completing all requirements
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree in criminal justice is required. A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice is preferred.
- At least two years of police, security, or related experience is preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts's Driver's License.
- Must submit to, and pass, an initial and annual criminal background check.
- Must obtain and maintain required certifications in the following programs (training provided by department):
- First Responder
- Annual In-Service Training, as currently provided by the MPTC
- Narcan (Naloxone) Training
- AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation Training
- International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic Officer Certification (within first 90 days)

- Ability to address problems of all types.
- Must be able to gather and evaluate evidence, interview victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Fluency in more than one language is preferred.
Responsibilities Include:
- Identifies criminal offenders and illegal activity.
- Intervenes in and evaluates situations involving criminal misconduct.
- Responds to crime scenes.
- Participates in assisting victims of workplace violence or domestic violence.
- Attends court as required and is prepared for court appearances.
- Responsible for promoting crime prevention.
- Patrol hospital grounds.
- Conducts investigations of incidents and writes investigative reports.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Performs Risk Screenings and Risk Assessments as needed.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
