Job Description

The Durham, NH Police Department is seeking candidates for the role of FT Entry Level Officer. The applicants selected will provide law enforcement and community-oriented services to the diverse Seacoast/University community. The Durham PD is a Meritorious CALCEA Accredited agency.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates interested in applying must possess the Minimum Requirements as specified below:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be 21 years of age prior to receiving a conditional offer of employment
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Possess High School Diploma or G.E.D., Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Must pass the PES/getbadged written entry exam with a 70% and above

Additional Qualifications

  • Must pass Background Investigation
  • Must pass the Oral Board
  • Participate and pass the Physical Fitness Test
  • Pass a Medical exam
  • Must successfully pass a Psychological exam
  • Pass the Polygraph exam
  • Must pass the Chief of Police Interview

  • Starting salary for a probationary officer is $59,441

Hiring Process

  1. Submit application, including resume & cover letter
  2. Physical Agility Test
  3. Candidates that pass the physical agility test may be invited to an Oral Board Interview
  4. Top candidates that pass the Oral Board will be recommended for an interview with the Chief
  5. Background Investigation: The candidate will be given a packet to fill out in depth and a comprehensive background investigation will be conducted.
  6. A polygraph Examination (lie detector test) administered by a certified examiner will measure the candidate's veracity throughout the selection process
  7. Psychological Examination: A qualified psychologist will administer a series of written exercises and conduct a personal interview(s)
  8. Medical Examination: A comprehensive medial exam will be conducted by a licensed physician to determine continued eligibility for entrance into the NH Police Academy
