Malden PD: Full-Time Entry Level Officer

These are the minimum qualifications required by state law to serve as a police officer in Massachusetts. All applicants must meet these baseline standards to be considered eligible.

• Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or naturalization), or provide proof of legal authority to work as a police officer in the United States.
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the exam.
• Possess a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
• Ability to successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT's), and a medical and psychological fitness for duty examination.
• Ability to successfully complete the Municipal Police Training Council (MPTC) Full-Time Police Academy.
• Have the ability to obtain an unrestricted Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm (LTC-A) at the time of hire.
• Not be a convicted felon or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth.
• Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking of tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by G.L. c. 41 Section 101A of the Massachusetts General Laws.
• Must pass a thorough Background Investigation.
• Ability to pass the Physical Abilities Test (PAT) standards, as defined by the MPTC, as well as a medical exam and psychological fitness for duty examination. 

In addition to state standards, Malden PD has outlined minimum qualifications and preferences that reflect the needs, values, and expectations of our department and community.

• Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
• Must have achieved 75%+ on the getbadged Entry Exam.
• Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Malden Police Officer.
• Have a strong character background.
• Preference may be given to candidates who meet certain additional qualifications (such as prior law enforcement or relevant experience and specialized training). However, all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply and will be given full consideration.

• Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
• Respond to emergency calls and assist in emergency situations.
• Conduct investigations and gather evidence related to criminal offenses.
• Enforce laws and regulations, issue citations, and make arrests as necessary.
• Prepare and maintain accurate reports and documentation of incidents and investigations.
• Engage with community members to foster positive relationships and promote public safety.
• Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations.

Salary: 

• Annual: $68,938 - $72,696 (Does not include 6% shift differential, education incentive, or longevity pay.)

• Bi-Weekly: $2,651 - $2,796
