Minimum Requirements

Minimum Eligibility Overview: Below are the minimum requirements as outlined by Massachusetts state law for police officer candidates, as well as the minimum requirements unique to the Mansfield Police Department.

State-Mandated Requirements (Per Massachusetts Law)

These are the minimum qualifications required by state law to serve as a police officer in Massachusetts. All applicants must meet these baseline standards to be considered eligible.

Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or Naturalization).
Must have the ability to successfully complete a Massachusett's Police Training Council (MPTC) Police Academy to achieve basic certification as a Police Officer.
Possess a valid Massachusett's driver's license.
Have the ability to obtain an unrestricted Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm.
Have the ability to pass the Physical Abilities Test (PATs), and psychological fitness for duty examination after receiving a Conditional Offer of Employment.
Not be a convicted felon, or have convictions from any other jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth.
Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by G.L. Chapter 41, Section 101A of the Massachusetts General Laws.
Must pass thorough background investigation.

Mansfield PD Department-Specific Requirements

In addition to state standards, the Mansfield Police Department has outlined minimum qualifications and preferences that reflect the needs, values, and expectations of our department and community.

Possess a High School diploma or GED Certificate. Preference will be given to those candidates that have a college degree(s), military experience, or combination.
Have a strong character background.
Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Mansfield Police Officer.
Must live within 15 miles of Mansfield (as the crow flies, border to border), prior to the end of your "Probationary Period" (one year upon successful completion of the Field Training Program).
Must be free of tattoos past the wrist towards the hand, on the neck, or on the face.
Must achieve a 70% or above on getbadged Entry Exam.

Salary & Compensation

The Mansfield PD offers a competitive salary & benefits compensation package as outlined below. Additional details provided upon request.

Salary starting at $63,506.48 for step one, and credit is given for experience.
MPD has recently approved full education benefits for Bachelor's and Master's Degrees (Quinn Bill equivalent).
