Minimum Requirements

Do You Meet All the Requirements? See If You Qualify:

✔️ Be a U.S. Citizen (by birth or naturalization) or provide proof of legal authority to work as a police officer in the United States.
✔️ Be at least 21 years of age at the time of the exam.
✔️ Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate. 
✔️ Possess a valid Massachusetts's driver's license.
✔️ Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm (LTC-A) at the time of hire.
✔️ Have the ability to pass the Physical Abilities Test (PAT's), medical exam and psychological fitness for duty examination.
✔️ Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Holliston Police Officer.
✔️ Have the ability to successfully complete the Massachusetts Police Training Council (MPTC) Full-Time Police Academy.
✔️ Not be a convicted felon or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth. 
✔️ Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by G.L. Chapter 41 Section 101A of the Massachusetts General Laws.
✔️ Must pass a thorough background investigation.
✔️ Must have received a passing score of 70% or above on the GetBadged Entry Exam.

Core Responsibilities

Your Role: 

• Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.
• Respond to emergency calls and assist in emergency situations.
• Conduct investigations and gather evidence related to criminal offenses.
• Enforce laws and regulations, issue citations, and make arrests as necessary.
• Prepare and maintain accurate reports and documentation of incidents and investigations.
• Engage with community members to foster positive relationships and promote public safety.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential Skills for Success

• Working knowledge of modern police procedures, laws, and use-of-force standards.
• Ability to assess situations quickly and take appropriate action.
• Proficient in self-defense tactics, firearms, and emergency vehicle operation.
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with agencies, staff, and the public.
• Familiarity with community geography and demographics.
• Competent in computer use and report writing.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills; professional appearance and demeanor.
• Emotionally stable with the ability to handle stress and confront hostile individuals.
• Physically capable of performing arrests, pursuing suspects, and managing high-stress incidents.
• Must meet wellness standards per M.G.L. c.31 §§ 61A–61B (for hires after Nov. 1, 1996).

Salary & Compensation

The Holliston PD offers a competitive salary & benefits compensation package:

Annual Salary:

• $64,183 - $87,710
