The Swampscott Police Department is hiring! We’re looking to fill seven (7) Full-Time Entry-Level Police Officer positions and are actively accepting applications from eligible candidates.

Minimum Requirements
Do You Meet All the Requirements? See If You Qualify:
🟦 Be a U.S. Citizen (by birth or naturalization) or provide proof of legal authority to work as a police officer in the United States.
🟦 Be at least 21 years of age at the time of the exam.
🟦 Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate. Preference given to candidates with a college degree, military experience, or a combination of both.
🟦 Be and remain a non-smoker.
🟦 Not be a convicted felon or have any equivalent felony convictions.
🟦 Not be decertified by POST (M.G.L. Chapter 41 Section 94A) or appear on any national or local decertification list.
🟦 Be in compliance with the 20-mile residency requirement (M.G.L. Chapter 41 Section 99A) upon completion of the Police Academy.
🟦 Have no tattoos, body art, brands, or scarifications that are deemed offensive, extremist, racist, indecent, violent, or sexist.
🟦 Possess, or obtain by the date of the exam, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
🟦 Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm (LTC-A) at the time of hire.
🟦 Have the ability to pass the Massachusetts Police Training Council (MPTC) Academy curriculum to achieve basic certification as a Police Officer.
🟦 Maintain an impeccable character background.
🟦 Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Swampscott Police Officer, including working various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime on an “order-in” or emergency basis.
🟦 Receive a passing score of 70% or above on the PES/getbadged Entry Exam.
🟦 Pass a physical abilities test aligned with MPTC Academy admission standards.
🟦 Pass a medical examination, including drug screening.
🟦 Pass a psychological exam.
