Minimum Requirements

  • Age: Be at least 21 years of age upon submission of application. There is no maximum age.
  • Residency: In accordance with Massachusetts General Law, candidate must establish residency within 15 miles of the limits of the Town of Hopedale within one (1) year from the date of appointment.
  • Non-Smoker: Must be a non-smoker of tobacco products under M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 101A, and remain a non-smoker.
  • License: Must have a valid Massachusetts Driver's license before appointment.
  • Certifications: Must have the ability to obtain a valid Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms Permit.
  • Fitness: Must pass a complete fitness test.
  • Background: Must pass a comprehensive background investigation. No person who has been convicted of a felony shall be appointed as a police officer.
  • Medical & Psychological Exam: Candidates required to successfully complete both Medical & Psychological exam.
  • Academy: Must successfully complete the full-time MPTC Police Academy.
  • Entry Exam: Must pass the getbadged entry exam with a 70% or above.

Salary & Compensation

Annual Salary Range:

  • $64,790.64 - $77,464.80 (Commensurate with experience.)

Benefits Beyond the Pay:

  • Educational Incentive Program.
  • Health Insurance: Currently 70/30.
  • Generous Paid Time Off: Vacation, Personal Time & Sick Days.
  • Shift Differential = $3.25 - $4.00/shift.
  • Third Party Detail Opportunities: $65/hr. - $162.50/hr. with a minimum of 8 hours.
  • Stipend Pay.
  • Longevity Incentive.

Hiring Process

  1. Submit your application for review and eligibility determination.
  2. Eligible applicant's may be invited to an Interview Panel and/or Chief of Police.
  3. May be invited to complete a fitness test, comprehensive background investigation process, as well as pass the Medical, Psychological exam.
  4. May receive a Conditional Offer of Employment.
