The North Shore Community College PD is now seeking Certified | Lateral Transfer Officers who are ready to bring their training and experience into a mission-driven environment. Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the full-time Certified | Lateral Transfer Officer position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must have successfully passed a full-time Police Academy, and be POST Certified.
- A full-time enforcement officer from any U.S. law enforcement agency with experience in his/her agency may apply to join the Department as a Lateral Transfer.
- Out-of-state Lateral candidates are encouraged to apply, but are required to obtain a Massachusetts Basic Training Exemption prior to proceeding with our departmental hiring process. For comprehensive information regarding the exemption request process, and to obtain an application, click here.
- Please Note: The exemption letter serves as a preliminary authorization, advising that the MPTC would "likely allow you to obtain an exemption from the the requirement of completing a MPTC operated/authorized basic training police academy." It does not constitute a final waiver.
- Must be certified and in good standings with the National Decertification Index (NDI).
- Must possess a high school diploma or have passed the High School Equivalency Testing Program (HiSET), formally as the GED.
- Must possess a Massachusetts Class "D" or greater motor vehicle operator's license or out-of-state equivalent.
- Possess a valid, current Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm (LTC-A), without restrictions (M.G.L. Chapter 140, Section 131).Must have the ability to successfully complete annual qualification with department-issued firearms.
- Must be First Aid/CPR/AED Certified, or have the ability to become Certified upon employment.
- Must pass a POST Commission approved:
- Drug test.
- Pre-placement medical exam.
- Psychological assessment.
- Must have the ability to pass an extensive background investigation and CORI/SORI check, including fingerprinting and employment history, as a condition of employment.
- Must be of good moral character and fit for employment, as determined by the POST Commission.
