Job Description
From Academy to Action. Put your training to work where it matters most.
The Brookline, MA Police Department — a non-Civil Service agency — is seeking Full-Time MPTC Certified Academy-Trained Police Officers ready to bring their skills, training, and drive to one of the most dynamic communities in Massachusetts.
Brookline isn’t ordinary policing. With just 6.8 square miles, we serve a daytime population of 100,000+ alongside world-class universities, medical centers, and businesses. Our force of 134 sworn officers delivers big-city impact with small-town pride — giving you opportunities to grow, specialize, and lead.
Our Department: Did You Know?
- Brookline is home to a highly diverse community, with more than 25% of residents born outside the U.S. — making cultural competency and community connection central to the job.
- Brookline PD is nationally accredited through the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission, demonstrating its commitment to the highest standards of policing.
- Brookline PD is led by Chief Jennifer Paster, the town’s first female Chief of Police, alongside a Superintendent — one of the few MA departments with this dual leadership structure.
- The department actively engages in progressive community policing initiatives, balancing traditional enforcement with modern, problem-solving strategies.
- Brookline PD traces its roots back to the 1870s, giving it one of the longest-standing traditions of professional policing in the state.
- Brookline PD is built on integrity, innovation, and excellence. We invest in our officers’ growth — physically, professionally, and personally — because your success drives ours.
