Minimum Requirements

To be considered an eligible candidate, applicants must meet or exceed the Minimum Requirements as outlined below.

  • Must have successfully completed a full-time Massachusetts Police Academy, and hold POST Certification.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or naturalization).
  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • Possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license.
  • Possess an unrestricted Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm (LTC-A), without restrictions (M.G.L. Chapter 140, Section 131).
  • Must successfully pass the Human Resources Division (HRD) comprehensive medical exam.
  • Must successfully pass the Human Resources Division (HRD) Physical Ability Test (PAT).
  • Applicant must be able to retain their Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification; their Special State Police powers in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 22 Section 63; and their Suffolk County Deputy Sheriff's powers.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation and a pre-employment medical exam.
