Minimum Requirements
Do You Meet the Requirements? See if You Qualify!
🟦 Be a U.S. Citizen (by birth or naturalization) or provide proof of legal authority to work in the U.S. as a police officer.
🟦 Successfully completed a Full-Time MPTC Police Academy with POST Certification, in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 96B.
🟦 Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate (Preference given to candidates with a college degree(s), military experience, or a combination).
🟦 Possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
🟦 Have the ability to obtain a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm (LTC-A).
🟦 Have the ability to pass a medical screening and psychological test.
🟦 Have a strong character background.
🟦 Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Swampscott Police Officer.
🟦 Must reside within 20 miles of the Town of Swampscott (as the crow flies, border to border) prior to the end of your first year.
🟦 Not be a convicted felon or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth.
🟦 Be a non-smoker and remain a non-smoker (smoking tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 101A).
🟦 Must pass a background investigation.
🟦 Must be free of tattoos past the wrist towards the hand, on the neck, or on the face.
🟦 No candidates for appointment shall have tattoos, body art, brands, or scarifications that are considered offensive, extremist, racist, indecent, violent, or sexist.
