Minimum Requirements

To be considered an eligible candidate, applicants must meet or exceed the Minimum Requirements as outlined below.

  • Be POST Certified, or be eligible for POST Certification, and/or obtained a permanent exemption from the MPTC (Municipal Police Training Committee), and that has been approved and accepted by the Massachusetts State Police.
  • Remain a Certified Officer for the duration of employment.
  • Have successfully completed a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) Police Academy or obtained a permanent exemption from the MPTC.
  • Be eligible for appointment as:
    • A Norfolk County Deputy Sheriff and maintain eligibility for the duration of employment.
    • A Special State Police Officer in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 22, Section 63, and be able to maintain their eligibility for the duration of their employment.
  • Have at least three (3) years of verified campus law enforcement or campus public safety experience.
  • Be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have an active Massachusetts Driver's License
  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation, a pre-employment psychological exam, and a pre-employment medical exam.

Additional Qualifications

The Sergeant serves under the general supervision of the Lieutenant and is tasked with managing the daily operations of their respective shift. The Sergeant will supervise and oversee the Campus Police Officers and Public Safety Officers assigned to their shift and participate in the management of the Department, ensuring that the college community and its facilities are safe and secure.
