Curry College: FT Sergeant / Lateral Transfer Officer (2025)

• Have previous experience as a supervisor in a campus law enforcement or campus public safety setting.
• Possess an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Have graduated from or completed a law enforcement supervisory or management program such as the MPTC First Line Supervisor Course.
• Possess active certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Stop the Bleed.
• Have campus law enforcement experience.
• Possess knowledge of CAD and reporting writing operating systems.
• Knowledge of police procedures and practices, the laws of arrest, and criminal procedures.
• Strong ability to understand the dynamics and culture of working at an institution of higher learning.
• At the College's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be expected where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the College, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

The Sergeant will perform the following functions, including but not be limited to:

• Manage the patrol operations of their shift.
• Enforce department orders, applicable state laws, and ensure compliance with all personnel.
• Conduct a shift change roll call to inform of ongoing incidents, recent crime trends, new policies and procedures, and any other relevant information.
• Approve all incident reports to ensure there are no spelling or grammatical errors, that the information is accurate, and then forward the report as necessary through the Chain of Command.
• Successfully address a broad range of issues using sound judgement and discretion, ensuring effective crisis management and conflict resolution.
• Respond to active and ongoing incidents.
• Respond to emergency calls, reports of crimes in progress; suspected criminal activity; medical emergencies; environmental emergencies; fires; fire alarms; motion and intrusion alarms; and accidents, etc.
• Render aid assist victims, making appropriate referrals to available resources.
• Conduct thorough initial investigations of incidents and follow up investigations.
• Assist Massachusetts State Police, Milton Police, Milton Fire, Coastal EMS, and other public safety agencies as requested and/or required.
• Possess knowledge of police practices and investigative procedures of a comprehensive campus law enforcement program.
• Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and make decisions in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
• Operate specialized law enforcement equipment including specialized police vehicles, radios, and video systems.
• Be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusions, and furthering a welcoming work environment.
• Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, and respond well to questions.

The Sergeant may, at times, be subject to the following additional functions:

• Regularly attend meetings and sit on various boards comprised of campus partners.
• Regularly prepare incident and accident reports for supervisory review and possible dissemination.
• Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Lieutenant.
