Marion PD: Full-Time Entry Level Officer (2025)

These are the minimum qualifications required by state law to serve as a police officer in Massachusetts. All applicants must meet these baseline standards to be considered eligible.

• Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or naturalization).
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
• Possess a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
• Ability to obtain an unrestricted Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a Firearm (LTC-A).
• Not be a convicted felon or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth.
• Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking of tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by G.L. c. 41 Section 101A of the Massachusetts General Laws.
• Must pass a Background Investigation.
• Must pass the medical exam before participating in the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
• Pass the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
• Successfully pass the physical fitness test at the 30th percentile of the Cooper Aerobics Institute’s standards, as required by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) for entry into the full-time MPTC Police Academy, as outlined below:

• Ability to successfully complete the Full-Time MPTC Police Academy.

In addition to state standards, Marion PD has outlined minimum qualifications and preferences that reflect the needs, values, and expectations of our department and community.

• In accordance with Massachusetts General Law, candidate must establish residency within 15 miles of the limits of the Town of Marion within one (1) year from the date of appointment.
• Must have an Associate's Degree, OR
  • Attained an equivalent number of credits toward a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university, OR
  • Possess a High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent and have achieved Veteran's status with the United States Armed Forces as defined by Massachusetts General Law.
• Achieve 70%+ on the getbadged entry exam.
• Pass an oral interview prior to appointment.
• Perform the duties of a Marion Police Officer.

1. Submit your application to the Marion PD for review and eligibility determination.
2. Applicant's who have met the Minimum Requirements and are eligible for consideration, may be invited to an Interview Panel and/or Chief of Police.
3. Candidates may be invited to complete a comprehensive background investigation process, as well as pass the medical and psychological exams.
4. May receive a Conditional Offer of Employment.
