The Cohasset Police Department has recently withdrawn from the Massachusetts Civil Service system and is actively seeking Certified Full-Time MPTC Academy Trained candidates interested in serving the Cohasset community.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered an eligible candidate, applicants must meet or exceed the Minimum Requirements as outlined below.

• Academy & Certification: Must have successfully completed a Full-Time MPTC Police Academy and be POST Certified, in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 96B.
• Citizenship: Be a U.S. Citizen (Birth or naturalization).
• Driver's License: Possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license.
• Education: 
  • Possess a minimum of Associate's Degree or equivalent credits when enrolled in a Bachelor's program from an accredited college/university, or 
  • Possess a High School diploma/G.E.D. equivalent and have achieved Veteran's status with the United Armed Forces as defined by M.G.L.
• LTC: Must possess an unrestricted Massachusetts License to Carry a Firearm (LTC).
• Background: 
  • Must pass a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Must not be a convicted felon or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth.
• Fitness & Medical: Must pass physical fitness test, medical examination, and a drug screen/test.
• Non-Smoking: Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 101A. 

Salary & Compensation

The Cohasset Police Department offers a competitive salary & benefits compensation package. 

Annual Salary:

• $69,939 - $83,510 (Effective July 1, 2026) *
• Certified officers will receive credit for time served. Experience and years of service will determine starting salary.

* Effective July 1, 2026, top step for a patrol officer is $106,023, including night differential, longevity, Bachelor's degree incentive pay, and holiday pay.
